Windows shows a warning during install — what to do?

"Windows protected your PC" / SmartScreen — why it happens, and whether it's safe.

In short: The warning is normal and expected. Unifo is new software and hasn't built up a "download reputation" with Microsoft yet — that's why SmartScreen appears. The software is safe to use. Click "More info" then "Run anyway".

Why does the warning appear?

Windows SmartScreen shows a warning for files downloaded from the internet that haven't yet been seen by a large number of users. Because Unifo is relatively new, the filter hasn't built up enough "reputation" for it — that's the only reason for the warning. It does not mean anything is wrong with the file. As more people download and install Unifo, the warning disappears on its own.

How to continue the installation

  1. In the warning window, click the More info link.
  2. A new button appears — click Run anyway.
  3. The installation continues as usual. Open Unifo and enter your license key to get started.

Is it safe?

Yes. Document processing in Unifo happens entirely on your computer and is never sent to the internet. If you'd like to verify, you can scan the installer with any anti-virus program before running it.
